Fabric Fortune Cookies - March 29, 2012

Front Yard Flower Pot - March 28, 2012
I planted these pansies in this pot by my garage door. The very next morning, the deer had eaten all the blossoms off of them. I'm waiting for more buds too come now. <grin> I have planted a lot of marigold seeds in the same pot & hope that the deer don't like them as much. The deer even ate the top off of one of the cactus. You can also see some of the cobalt blue bottle in my side garden in this photo.

Chickadee Visiting the Fiber Suet Cage - March 27, 2012
I filled my empty suet cage with fabric scraps, yarn and hair from my hair brush. I had seen that things were being pulled out, but today a saw this chickadee sitting beside the cage. He must be taking the pieces to build his nest.

It's Cherry Blossom Time - March 23, 2012
I had a wonderful day yesterday in Washington DC, viewing the cherry blossoms. It is the 100th anniversary of the gift of the cherry trees from the country of Japan. It was the "peak day" for the blossoms. The sun was shining and it was 80 degrees outside. This photo was taken by the tidal basin.

I was invited to attend the welcoming ceremony for The Right Honorable David Cameron of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Mrs. Samantha Cameron on the South Lawn of the White House yesterday in Washington DC. It was a beautiful sunny day. This is a photo of me on the South Lawn, right before the ceremony started. I had a wonderful time. We were given souvenir booklets and British and United States flags.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the welcoming ceremony for The Right Honorable David Cameron of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Mrs. Samantha Cameron on the South Lawn of the White House today in Washington DC. It was a beautiful sunny day. I took this photo of the President and the Prime Minister walking towards the podium. "Waiting for Summer" Fiber Art - March 4, 2012
This is a photo of a fiber art piece that I designed and made in 2006 for the "Journal Art" project for the International Quilt Festival in Houston , Texas. I participated in the project every year. The little art quilt is 8 1/2" x 11" in size. I did curved piecing and added different yarns and beads.
Oak Movable Teddy Bear - March 3, 2012
I also love working with wood and have my own band saw and drill press. I drew the pattern for this bear. It's made of five different pieces. After cutting out the pieces and sanding the rough edges, I stained it with dark walnut MinWax and let it dry. Then I wired the legs and arms onto the body of the bear with twisted picture hanging wire and coat buttons. I have made hundreds of these bears over the years. It sits on top of my roll top desk.

Bald Eagle in Backyard - March 1, 2012
When I got home from lunch today with a friend, we saw this bald eagle in the tree behind the houses. He had a white head and white coloring under his tail feathers. Since I don't have a great zoom on my digital camera, this is as close as I could get for the photo. He started flying around in circles when I got closer. There was also another eagle circling around in the area. I am hoping that they are going to nest in an area tree in our neighborhood.
